How to interpret optical performance data

Vision Technology Forum 2014 (UK): Manufacturers of optical devices are very familiar with a common question asked by machine vision specialists: "I have a camera with an X µm pixel size. Does your lens provide resolution for this pixel specification?" People working in machine vision are outstanding electronics specialists, brilliant mathematicians or excellent programmers. However one of the most important aspects of imaging - the optics - is sometimes treated as a sort of poor cousin, leading to the idea that its properties can be described by a simple answer to a closed question: "Yes" or "No". Presentation by Udo Schellenbach (Carl Zeiss AG).
